layers per layout?
« on: April 20, 2015, 11:27:27 AM »
Is it possible to set layers on or off and/or frozen or un-frozen per individual layout as it is per individual viewport?  :?

OK,
Try this one

NO

I was trying to be gentle.

Seeing the below answer...I retract...

interesting....I never tried to use Viewport Layer controls on a Layout Tab....very interesting indeed

Not true.  If you use the VP FREEZE toggle in the layer dialog box you can freeze a layer on a layout tab and not affect layers on other layout tabs.

It seems that you can...

However I must ask how or why are you drawing things on a particular layout....that should not appear on that layout?

If you have a better way, I'm all ears:

I have two separate sides of a system so I was asked to do two drawings of the same system, one for each side. Certain note annotations are for both sides and certain notes are for one or the other only. I am trying to avoid more than one copy of a note because if there is a change I want the note affected wherever it is turned on (they like turning layers on and off here). I would also like to keep my notes in paper space if I can (I could put them in model space which is what I am currently working on, still having two copies for each side though, because I need to remove arrows that point to something that is off in the current viewport.)

then don't  duplicate any notes....

if the thing is the same Left and Right or Top and Bottom  call it out once as being the same and or SYMMETRICAL

well yeah. I have three layers for notes.

1. left side
2. right side
3. both sides

To use these adequately in paper space, I need to turn only certain layers off in certain layouts. For instance, right side notes are off on left side layout.

The other issue I'm running into is if I place them on one sheet they are in a bad spot on the other one.

I'm open to any solutions anyone may have.  :-)

Is this the same note, just for a part on 'the other' side?

Common notations include "left-hand shown, right-hand opposite"

Towards end of this last one; one will see some 'symetrical' and or typical each type notation(s)

It happens to be a part that shows through to both sides and the notes are slightly different for each side.

In an effort to standardize everything here, if a change is made to one side, it is also made to the other, barring any necessary differences, logically.  :gum:

Those are most excellent and I now have a ton of reading ahead of me. Thank you for that!

I have resorted to using changespace after placing for each sheet on seperate dim layers. Model space is messy but my sheets look nice.

IMHO that's the point of modelspace/paperspace.

Worked with a guy once who'd draw ALL of the house plans (so subs, ground floor, first floor etc. plus roof and joist layouts) in the same bit of model space and use layer names/scripts to work on them in MS.

Yes, Layer States...

Also, even within Civil Drawings we try to minimize any duplication of information (notes, or details)
This is to reduce the chance that any not or detail is revised, and a duplicate note or detail is NOT also edited
leading to either confusion or construction errors.

I know I've said this maybe too many times, however unless there is an absolute need to annotate an object that is the exact mirror
or exactly symmetrical  on a part or assembly it is conventional to omit.
