structure help
« on: March 17, 2015, 08:45:28 AM »
I've had little need to get into modifying structures, but it has finally happened, and looking at the Part Builder information for the structure is confusing. Rectangular structure, rectangular top slab, rectangular frame -- pretty basic I would think.

The situation I've got is that the top of the structure needs to be at 199.50, and the top of the outer wall of the pipe is at 198.30.  C3D insists om forcing the top of the structure to 199.99.

Looking into Part builder the relevant distance appear to be 'Vertical Pipe Clearance", SVPC.  That is defined under Model Parameters  hierarchy as SSTH+SBPC.  SSTH is set to 3", and SBPC set to 6".    So I'm expecting that the sum of those would be 9" - at least according to the arithmetic I learned in 1st grade.  And if 9" is the number being used, then I should not have any problem setting top of structure where I need it.

But, according to the Size Parameters list of values, SVPC is 20.0000, and SBPC somehow is changing to 18.0000

wtf?

I would need a sketch of the specific dimension you want to achieve...and which part you copied to start from.

here's a quick profile (10 to 1 vertical exaggeration) of the structure & pipes and the structure files from the catalog

FWIW -- corporate put these together

see attached this is from my catalog..rectangular structure and frame

my default values..SSth=2
SBPC=18

perhaps they are not at fault?

suggest checking LenB1

Also check that it isn't the item in second attachment....

you want to change the size parameters ....

The size parameters control the part once placed inside thee model

the model parameters 'only' control the 3d part model inside part builder

I will look again when back at the shop.  I am still bemused n confused how 3+9 becomes 20, or how the BPC changes ittself to 18.

3+9 is not becoming 20>>>look again at the image 1(  ) above....it is the result of SSth=2 + SBPC=18 2+18 is 20

From the PART SIZE parameters NOT from model parameters

IGNORE  model parameters

FOCUS  instead on PART SIZE values

Thanks!!  that seems to have gotten it straight.  I had intuitively expected that a 'named value' of 9 in one location of the tree was the same as the identically named value in a different location.  Obviously -- I'm wrong.

working now.  thanks for the explanation

Part Builder and Intuitive  should never be used in a sentence together, EVER!
