picture on save question
« on: February 26, 2015, 09:31:12 AM »
These are pics from Windows Explorer, the last one is from the AutoCAD open window.

Why does one save white and the other black?

Why would one save at a smaller size from one computer and at a larger size from another? The pics appear to be the same size but the "digital window" for lack of my understanding and a better term, is smaller on the white ones?

I have been looking around and I have found some info but I am not understanding it. I think I need some technical terms defined...?

Any help appreciated.  :-)

And, yes, I was asked to "fix" my saved files.

As far as differing size, look into the THUMBSIZE system variable. I thought the background colors were dependent on your display settings?

Seems likes background was different depending on if model or paperspace was active when file was last saved.

THUMBSIZE is already set at 8 (FYI: I am in AutoCAD 2014, not C3D but it does have the THUMBSIZE variable)

Checking into that...

It also depends on the color of your back ground. Try setting the color of your paperspace tab to red then back to white.
Make sure UPDATETHUMBNAIL is set to 16 if you want updates on every save.

Yup, that's it!  :yay!:

So what does 15 do?

(Help File makes me think of Jack Sparrow, "That's mildly unhelpful!")

It does what the sum of 8,4,2, and 1 would do....

Okay, it's half fixed. The colors are right and in the AutoCAD window the thumbnails appear to be the same size, however, they look a bit different, mine save on the bottom with no "extra top space" (see pic) and in the Windows Explorer window, in the preview pane, most of them pull up to fit the window and the ones I saved come up as a tile in the middle that's much harder to see.

Is this an AutoCAD save setting or a Window Explorer Setting? I am guessing it's AutoCAD because only the drawings saved from my computer are doing this.

I'm more concerned about the size in explorer than the placement in AutoCAD.

verify same "THUMBSIZE" (System Variable)

Specifies the display resolution in pixels for all thumbnail preview images.

compare yours to one that is OK

That would be why I said "VERIFY"  she may have set hers different than the others....we are attempting to troubleshoot a problem without access to the computer(s) exhibiting said problem.
In doing so no possibility should be overlooked, or assumed to be correct.

And I check that very fact prior to posting....but thanks for attempting to police responses to prevent circular references.

And is everyone's also set to 8?

Further....within autocad:   To change the file icon to a thumbnail preview, click the drop-down list at the top of the Recent Documents or Open Documents lists and choose small icons, large icons, small images, or large images.

Makes no sense to me but there thumbsize is set to 3.

Set mine to 3. Opened, zoomed to extents, saved. So far no difference.

That falls back to the UPDATETHUMBNAIL setting and function....so they may not all automaniacally 'fix' themselves

you know they might be better off spending time using DRAWING PROPERTIES and not this thumbnail nonsense to track what is or is not happening with a file

.

I have been using details and the pre-view pain with extra large icons.

Already set on Extra Large Icons...I wonder if it has to do with too much detail...

Wait a minute...this one came up different...

I still haven't figured this out. My co-worker insists it's a setting I toggled somewhere and wants my "small" drawings to look like his "big" drawings. Any suggestions or ideas are welcome.  :|

Just a guess but are you using a widescreen monitor & he's not? The thumbnail preview seems to take on whatever shape your AutoCAD window is.

Aha! He has the same monitor as I do but at least I can "create" a similar looking thumbnail now so thank you for that!

We both zoom to extents before every save. Maybe it's a zoom or a drawing limits setting?

Maybe it's a Windows thing, the same happens here sometimes. Below an example, all icons are exactly the same size.
