Changing Xref pathing - batch/folders etc
« on: December 22, 2014, 11:18:35 AM »
Hi All,

We're having a file server installed here currently. This will mean that my project files will end up being moved onto the server at some point.

Question: what will be the best way to ensure the xref pathing doesn't get broken when the root directory gets changed?
Currenly say it's c\windows\projects\job name\current\xref

\projects\job name\current\xref will remain the same but instead of c\windows it will be something attached to the server.

This won't matter so much with recent and new jobs as we have been using relative pathing for a while, but some of the older stuff is absolute and will likely get broken by the migration.

Any of you guys have any experience of doing this and what issues did you encounter?

Ta.

Ps,

I've just had an awful thought - all of my sheetset files will stop working when this happens too - any ideas on how to deal with them would also be much appreciated.

Re the xrefs:
If the Pathing is relative and the relativity is unchanged you should be OK.

Re Sheetsets.
Can't help , don't use them.

Autodesk Referance Manager should help with this

or BiE or BiD free plug-ins available from the Autodesk Exchange store.

All the best, Robbo.

Hehe, well, it's certainly something to look forward to when I'm back from my holiday in the new year - I have a month off so this is a delayed headache ;)

Thanks for the suggestions so far. I've not used the reference manager before, should be interesting.

As for that tools site... I've dl the layout tools manager for a start as it's something I can use here for other stuff (cheers).
It looks like the BatchInDatabase tool might help here too.

Good stuff - I shall remain optimistically positive about this, at least until I'm actually back in the office to deal with it
