3d Polylines to TIN Surface?
« on: November 10, 2014, 10:20:19 AM »
Hi everyone,

So here is my problem of the week.  I work with a program called 3D-office and AutoCAD Civil 3d.  Usually I import data (3D poly lines, points, ...etc)  from autocad into 3D-Office and build surfaces (because it is much easier to build complex surface in 3D-Office).  Now for the first time I am trying to bring a Surface from 3D-Office to AutoCAD however the format is strange.  Its as if the TIN surface has been turned into 3 dimensional linework of the surface (like exploding a surface into lines.).   I was wondering if there is a away to turn these lines into a surface again in AutoCAD.  PM me if you want to see the file!

Thank you in advance.

what are you exporting out of Topcon 3d office?

are you exporting the surface ONLY as a TIN? or DTM?

or can you and are you also exporting breaklines ?

prehaps you could export as a FBK or as a Points file (figures)

seems to lack Land XML export support from quick look at help file PDF - this would pretty much render the software as useless for data exchange between Topcon to other 3d software

although I question that it is easier to build 'complex' surfaces with it.

There has been no surface I can not model in Civil 3d

two options...

create surface add these 3d lines in as break lines

convert them into feature lines and add them to a surface...

This looks like a task best done as corridor model in civil 3d.

and then you have more control and a better model of the roads

I sent you the wrong file, I resent the correct file!  Is there a difference?

YES

And it confirms that Topcon office NOT supporting XML makes it a less than effective tool.
