When I select the icon to open a file I have nothing in my history, nor an option to show them.  Anyone else run into this problem?

Are you talking about the list of files that are in the application Window?

That stuff is normally saved, controlled under
Options>>>Open and Save Tab

In another thread, Jeff Mishler from Quux Software has provided a standalone application (at no cost) to help you manage your recent documents list.
The AutoCAD Recent Documents List Manager allows you to select and remove items from this list easily. Below is a screen shot of this app.
Make sure all your AutoCAD based applications are closed and then launch the application. Now start by selecting the AutoCAD product, then the profiles associated with that product will be listed below. Select one and then the recent document list will be displayed in the center pane. A subset of that list, showing only the .DST files will be shown in the right pane. Select the items you want to delete and press the Remove Selected Items button. When you restart your product, you will see the results
