<sigh> sometimes I think AutoCAD is actively trying to make me learn new things. These views are both after I joined the filler solid and the part solid:

A)looking at the wrong part of the part

B) did not make the slot thicker than your flange so it made a void inside the solid, but not a slot through it.

Close. Slot became a solid on the wrong side of the wall surface. I did a 3dO and there it was.  :ugly:
