_All Points & Default label style
« on: April 28, 2014, 02:09:41 PM »
I am working on a new template (dwt) for our office. I'm going through our styles, layers and whatnot. For some reason when i create a new Point  there is no Point Label Style associated with said point. If you open the _All Points group the label style is <none>. I have the defaults set for creation etc.. I do not recall having this problem in the past. Perhaps I'm doing something wrong? I also do not see any way of setting a Default label style for _All Points.

Thanks for any hints. :)

I would suggest that the ALL points group be established to use NONE for both point and label style.
Use other point(s) groups to display points as desired.

Then when you have points, but do not need to see them , move _All Points group to the top of the points properties list.

Think of the All Points group as only a container for storing points in, but not for displaying them.

Because there is always a _All Points group, there is no default setting for that. You just set a style for it in the template.
The conclusion is justified that the initialization of the development of critical subsystem optimizes the probability of success to the development of the technical behavior over a given period.

First, how do you established a default in the point groups? I see no way of doing that.

Do you setup point groups in your .dwt?

We typically do not use point groups.

So create an _All Points in the template then?

It should be there already.

Yes

It's an automation thing.

We also suggest a few surfaces to already be in the DWT.
The Existing Surface is there it is populated with the Topo Surface point Group,

In this fashion, when one adds points to a file, they join their proper groups
The point groups are updated
the surface is 'rebuilt'
and breaklines from the survey figures are added.
it reduces time from import to finished survey file considerably.

The _All Points point group is created automatically when you create a drawing. It is listed on the Prospector tab under the Point Groups collection, with the other drawing point groups.

Mark,

I tried to set the Default Point and Label Styles in Edit Feature Settings, which is as high up in the hierarchy as I could find. Interesting results. If you lock the Default Point and Label Styles there, then any points created will use those styles, but yet All_Points still shows <none> for a Label Style. And Edit Current Selection is greyed out on the Label Style.

You have confirmed what I suggest about NOT using the ALL Points Group for anything more than a container.
That is it's real purpose.

However IF you must; you can go to the over rides TAB and lock in a point style there.

The settings for Creating points has nothing to do with the Point Groups. Change the _All Points group to use whatever you want (Michael's suggestion is a good one). In the PG settings you cannot edit the selected style because you don't have a style selected that may be edited....use the down arrow to choose a style, THEN you can edit it. And further more, the Create Point settings for the styles are not used when you have the setting to Use Description Keys turned on.

Jeff,

OK, I see now why Edit Current Selection was greyed out. Thanks.
