Topic: Units seem to be locked on FEET, help.

Ok, I received a drawing from an Architect in Mexico. The drawing is drawn in METERS, but the UNITS are set to FEET. I go in an change the units to meters work on the draw and save. Close and reopen the drawing and the units are back in Feet, what gives?

Are you using anything like Architectural or Land Development Desktop?  Those programs have a setting that will revert back to what they were set as when you first start the drawing.  Drove me nuts for a couple days trying to figure that one out..

Did the architect use ADT or LDT (or has the drawing ever been worked on in an Autodesk vertical product)?

If yes, the following Technical Documents might shed some light on the problem -

ID: TS66008 - Skip Main Content and go to Footer Contents.Drawing settings are overridden

ID: TS65039 - AutoCADŽ units or dimension scale is automatically overridden

ID: TS65525 - AutoCAD Drawing Units revert to decimal values

ID: TS53217 - Settings for units are not retained

ID: TS74732 - AutoCAD units precision changes without warning

So, if the architect is using ADT or LDT, i'm SOL?

1. From the Tools menu, choose Options.
2. In the Options dialog box, select the Open and Save tab.
3. In the ObjectARX Applications settings, set the Demand Load ObjectARX Apps value to Command Invoke and choose OK.
