Can Color States be saved?
« on: January 31, 2013, 09:25:07 AM »
I am making changes to an existing floor plan that currently has many layers, each with their own colors.

Typically when we do this, we cloud the new work. But, the outside engineer wants the old work grayed out also. THEN, during the As-Builts process every layer will need to be returned to it's original colors.

This is all new to me. Is there a way to save the original color states so I can change them back easily?

You're almost there. Look into Layer States.

Do you use paperspace?  I can't remember.  You can use a viewport to change the color /only in that viewport/ leaving the original color in-tact in model space.  That's how I handle shaded layers that may need to return to original.

In the past I have created a new drawing, used xrefs and left the originals alone, just changing the colours in the "new" drawings layer manager... if I am understanding what you are wanting to do.
Thanks for explaining the word "many" to me, it means a lot.

Another option is to save the file in its original state and then use Layer Tanslator to pull the colors from the original file.
