Beginer to MAP question
« on: March 03, 2005, 08:04:48 AM »
Hi,

I have alot of SHP files from other GIS data depots which i would like to access in MAP. I went to import all this data into my dwg. and its HUGE 300 MB and bigger.

I am trying to make a state GIS in CAD Format so i can xref it to our plans etc.

But is there a easier way to do this... plus the regeneration time on this thing takes forever!

I have in it so far...

VECTOR USGS Contours 24k
Vector Roads Tiger
Rail Road info
County Boundary
State Boundary
Section Corners
Township Range
City Limits

and alot more...

all on SPCS

thanks!

Why don't you make one dwg for the individual data sets. Then attach and query the info you want.

Is attaching data and query better than doing a XREF? into a main dwg or something.

Try this. Take one of the shape files, say roads. Import it, save as dwg. If it's still to big, take the state boundary and quarter it. Attach the overall roads. Then query the overall using a window around one of the quarer. save it. Start another one. Something like that anyway. :D
