MEP to Sketchup??
« on: August 31, 2012, 04:42:49 PM »
I love playing with sketchup, and I love how easy it is to model there.. I was wondering if anyone knows a good method of takeing AMEP models/constructs and transitioning them to a file readable by sketchup.

I am ok with loosing data that sketchup doesn't support.. I'm just looking for the models.

I'm completely open to suggestions and comments ...

Just to be clear, I'm not looking to somehow tranfer the part database.. just my structure and completed pipeing... I'm not trying to steel parts from autocad.. just trying to find another way to display my final (finished) work.

try http://forums.sketchucation.com/, the forums seem pretty good, I mostly lurk on the ruby script forum and there are some swamp worthy gurus there.
worth the login to get full access to posts.

I kinda wonder why going to SketchUp matters if you have everything already modeled. Is it the rendering you're after?

Yes, and the ability to add other objects that are already made in google's 3d warehouse.  This is not for imagery that will go into a plan set this is just for presentation.  For lets say trade shows ore other.
