Visual Studio, version life cycle
« on: June 11, 2012, 10:40:03 AM »

I'm still very new to .NET development, and do not yet understand the version life cycle for Visual Studio; started with Visual Studio 2010 Express.

Today I came across an update to the Windows Metro Style Support Only issue for Visual Studio 2012 Express, which is great... but what happened to Visual Studio 11 Beta?  :?

Is the interim version (11 in this case), just the Beta for the next year's RC?

TIA

Visual Studio 2012 is the product name, but it is version 11. Before it had a name, it was just referred to as VS 11. VS 2010 was version 10.

Thanks for the reply, Owen.

Is there anything special about 11 (now 2012), other than Windows 8 + .NET 4.5, that would prompt MS to release 11, as they (MS) previously jumped from VS 2008, to VS 2010, no?

I don't understand the question. VS 2008 was version 9, VS 2010 was version 10, now VS 2012 is version 11. Nothing special as far as I know.

Aha... This answers my question, Owen. Thanks for the clarification!
