External NAS Storage
Krushert:
Since I am the ITwit now for the office and inherited a back up system that is running out of space, I need to figure out something out for additional storage.
Currently I have approximately 400 Gb of data for the office that is getting back two ways. One is nightly backup to tape back up system and this is working fine, for now. The other back up to 160 gb SnapServer and to an 250 gb internal drive in an old computer. The Snap is full and and the internal HD is almost full and is getting some age on it. The Powers-To-Be want this storage to be in one spot, to be external and to be NAS. Rightly so I agree with them. The purpose of this storage is that IF the exchange server crashes or breaks or burns up but the rest of the office is fine, then this external drive would be shared with the users as a temporary server for file access until Primary sever is running again. Email is not and will not be handled with back drive.
I am reviewing some External Harddrive like this 2 TB BlackArmor® NAS 220 server The reason that I like this one, is becuase the description is geared to business and not itune/video storage for homes.
So I have two questions What do you guys use for data backup? Can you add any recommendations for something like the above?

I've been looking into a better backup system for the co. At just over $200 that is definitely something I'll be suggesting at the next mtg. Thanks for bringing it to my attention. Have you looked at anything else?
Krushert:
I finally got the go ahead of start looking. Being new to this ITwit thing, I will admit that I am nervous in making the right selection. Hardware is not one of my strong points.
Krushert:
These three are interesting. I am leaning towards the Seagate. Anything I need to be aware of or include in my purchase?
Item one Buffalo Tech: 2 TB LinkStation Duo NAS
Item two Seagate 2TB BlackArmor 220 Network External Drive (2x1TB)
Item three Iomega 2 TB ix2-200 StorCenter™ Network Storage Cloud Edition 35427
deegeecees:
Seagate is a solid brand IMO. Iomega kinda reaks of cheapo components, and ain't never heard of Buffalo Tech. As far as what all else you'll need, AFAIK, just some CAT5 cable.
