How to stretch a dynamic block around a corner,
« on: September 27, 2011, 04:44:33 AM »
Hi

I want to make a dynamic block that you can stretch in the length. If you come to the end, that you can continue to stretch around the corner (2D) up or down . My question is whether you can stretch a block to a point and then go around a corner and stretch further.

If needed i can upload a dwg. white an example

I hope someone can help me soon,

Greats

you can if you employ visibility states.  one state would be for straight, 2nd state would be for use at corners.  (we have something similar for wiremolding)

Thanks
If you do it with a visibility state you have already determined the corner, right? because it would be useful if the angle (how many degrees) could fild in some where. So that the angle is not determined.

Maybe I do something wrong with visibility state.

you would need a visibility state for every possible corner condition

not really, the corner version would employ a polar stretch!

I hadn't thought of that, Nibster; however would that also want to have set increments, so that weird angles weren't introduced (being non standard parts??)

Since I have limited information on what this idea will be used for, I just supplied the basics of his query.

One can add increments, offset the geometry from the basepoint, add a flip....  It all depends on what the block is going to be used for.

If the O.P. could provide a graphic on what this idea will be used for, then all types of fine tuning can be made or suggested.

It will be used for a METALSTUD (MS) wall (in dutch we say so) i will add a drawing whit a MS as example.

the dimensions are .

mm
12.5
12.5
50
12.5
12.5

In the middel (50mm) a Hatch for Isolation.

I want to stretch the MS and then go under a angle further.

Also a profile need to be returnd every 600mm.

I hope you understand what i mean.

(ps pleas don't pay attantion to my english it's not the best :-P)

ah, a fun one!!  For this type of geometry i would maintain a separate straight and corner grouping between visibility states.  It gets complicated trying to turn off the end caps of the straight while making the corner condition behave between visibility states.  If it wasn't for the studs and the hatching i would suggest that you re-use as much geometry as possible between visibility states.

you can control the stud size with a stretch/lookup parameter, but the size will be the same around corners if you want to keep the block fairly simple.

also, have you thought about basepoints (justification) of your grips in relation to the wall construction?  you will have to use a flip as a limit will be needed in the polar stretch to keep your linework clean.  (now that i think about it, the corner will be tricky unless you have limits)

what version ACAD are you using?  I bet "constraints" might be an option to get what we need here if your system is compatible.

Huh, how interesting:laugh:

however, the desire is to make a wall assembly with interior geometry.  I just can't figure out how to get it to work like a nice MLine...  :x
