His free lisp stuff wasn't blocked by robots.txt and is available in the wayback machine.. Otherwise, we're legally out of luck.

Looks like Tony went "offline" in May. I don't know if the man is retired, sick or otherwise, but I wish him well and thank him for his body of work. Regarding belittling et al. ... meh, none of us are perfect and I prefer not to dwell on to that aspect of him -- it is symptomatic of a perfectionist, a payload that came with that great body of work. Subtitle: He lacked grace, we don't have to.

His last post on the AdeskGroups was over 11mo ago (09-05-2010).

As for his examples, even though they were excellent, we (and others I'm sure) avoided them for legal reasons.

He took the time to help me when I first started and I'll always remember him for that.
Hope all is well with him.

I don't think he was that belittling at all. I liked his humor. People are way to soft if you ask me.

Agreed. When I was younger, I shared an office with an Engineer in his late 30s. Few liked dealing with him because of his crass nature and bluntness. One day someone asked him something about a set of plans, after his pause, they told him "I can handle the truth", to which he replied with "no, that's the problem, you can't. I'll tell you want I think and you'll say 'f** you Bill' and run off". People claim they want honesty, but when it comes down to it, they want everything sugar coated and remain inside their plastic bubble.

If you want to debate this further, then please post your reply in the 'you-are-wrong-and-I-am-right-because-that's-what-autodesk-says' newsgroup.

You have to admit that was funny (or is it still too soon?).

What I read of his work is the guy is smart and knows his stuff.

I never thought he was rude just some people would get upset and act like a little b*tch when told they were wrong.

Even if he was trying to attack people and being right out mean who cares as long as he keeps giving out good knowledge.
He could say or call me anything he wanted as long as he answerd my question.

Well as long as he does not say anything bad about my dog or Guns N roses

In hindsight its easy to see things in a good light, but keep in mind those searches aren't returning posts which were moderated out of existence - for good reason.  They pole vaulted straight over blunt and landed fully into personal insult without any intention of being helpful.  A few missed the mat entirely, landing in full-on lunacy.  Nobody should be excepted from the rules of any forum, regardless of how skilled they are.

And no - I didn't save anything.   :-P

I still think Tony had nothing on Randall Rath. Randall had a real knack for making you feel this (' ') small.

...LMAO. I remember when Randall started to "mirror" the newsgroups into the VBExpresso forums (you see the posts and even post back from within the VBExpressso forums).  Tony figured it out first and went nuts! At first Randall ignored him but then when Tony started to get real nasty Randall had him cowed in no time.

Wow.  Totally misread that part.  I thought he named his dog "Organs and Roses".  I should read slower.

Didn't know the man at all other than reputation but I do think he has a cool name.

I think he really would have appreciated my contributions to programming forums.  :lmao:

I guess you guys have heard of Jerry Winters but Tony should have been tougher on him.

Here is the dedication from his book

Quote
                  Dedication

Tony Tanzillo has had a significant impact on me. In
addition to being extremely (the word extreme doesn’t
really capture it) knowledgeable on customizing
AutoCAD, he has offered criticism that has given me
many hours of reflection. Although some consider his
criticism harsh, I have appreciated it and am a better
person and a better developer because he has been
kind enough to help me see weaknesses in myself.

As imperfect human beings, we strive to improve
ourselves. I am certainly striving to do this myself.
And if we will humble ourselves, God will show us our
weaknesses. With most Godly interventions, God can
and does use other people. When God humbles us,
some choose to become bitter. When people humble
us, we have a tendency to spit in their faces. The
prideful are offended and fight back, but the humble
are in a position to have weak things become stronger
because rather than spitting and cursing, they listen,
reflect, and improve.

May God grant me the humility to improve. Thanks,
Tony, for helping in that process. I hope to meet you in
person some day.

That is the smartest thing he says in the book

Was not there for a long time on the adesk forums... for what I was able to see or noticed is that as soon Tony is not posting anymore (hope all the best for him) there are more participation from the adesk programmers... at least that's my impression.

But still Tony even with his strong character he did a lot for the cad community, that's for sure.

Now I understand his attitude :)
