Cisco Training
Keith™:
Well, as it turns out, I am enrolled in a 12 week Cisco course ... upon successful completion, I will be CCENT certified, then another two classes and I will be CCNA .. so far it is relatively routine stuff ...
In 6 weeks, I'll know whether I can continue for the remaining 6 weeks. All students must have a passing grade at midpoint or they will not be allowed to complete the course.
The college is only proctoring the tests, everything else is directly from Cisco.
Pretty cool if you ask me.
StykFacE:
That is awesome man. I hope you do very well. My cousin got his CCNE & CCNA (I forget which cert is the "big one") but he's all the way certified and man, I can say first hand it was a challenge. He's a brilliant mind anyway, and I remember through the years of all his studying and how intense it was for him. In fact I remember one time the family was on an outing at Six Flags theme park and he was studying a book while standing in line for rides.
But he's got a job of a lifetime now and making great money. As long as he's awake with his cell phone on by 7am, he's "at work". Congrats and let us know how everything goes.

CCNA test is rather difficult, just a heads up. I thought I knew everything in and out, and when it came to taking the test I just barely passed.
Definitely a good certification to get to make you more marketable, but it kind of sucks that it expires after 3 years. Unless you actively use the knowledge throughout those three years it's either let the certification lapse or go back to square one and study.
CCENT...is this something new? Is it kind of equivalent to being "Microsoft Certified"? I don't recall hearing about that when I went through the process.
Good luck with the tests.
Keith™:
The CCENT is the network technician certification. It covers networking and practical application of networking up to a medium sized business or ISP. The information is pretty straightforward ... day 2 and already one test down .. I think I have another test on Thursday .. I'll have to review the timetable to be sure ... either way, its moving pretty quickly.
Keith™:
Test two down ... I thought it was Thursday .. turned out to be Wednesday .. I have another test tomorrow or Monday ... we are going through this stuff speedy gonzalez ... at least I know the material and have 100% on both of the tests so far ... the next one covers some things that I understand but not completely fluent in the technical terms and ability ... things such as ARP and routing tables ... I guess as long as I remember the ARP stuff is in the access domain I should be ok.
Over the next few days we will be building and testing several types of networks ... should be a piece of cake ... but then who knows :|
