hey guys i have a coworker who's drawings take forever to regen when opening and switching layouts. it says please wait formatting text in the bottom left hand corner and he's using alot of hatch. it regens fine on his computer but everybody else has problems. can you guys give it a look and tell me what you think the problem is so i can hopefully remedy the situation.

Dan,

Works fine here. Probably a truetype font....I noticed that there are many loaded in the drawing. I'm thinking the font that is slowing you down isn't on my machine. That's why I see no effect in my performance.

Try this one:

I did not download the file, but I can tell you that the problem you describe is associated with mtext and true type fonts. I personally avoid TTF as much as I can, and when you get large blocks of mtext, particularly when there are multiple mtext blocks, it tends to drag the system down.

that's it ron. it still takes a bit longer than mine to regen but i guess that due to the hatch but no more text message at bottom. how did you do it, do tell?

It's one of your fonts. I filtered out all the text in the drawing and changed it to romans.

Dan,

To filter objects:

Command filter.
In the dialogue box use Select Filter pulldown and scroll down to text.
Then push Add to List button. Apply and select all. Now all the text entities are selected and you can manipulate their style through the properties dialogue.

The only way I know of to find the "evil font" is process of elimination and testing regen time after changing each font style to a non TTF.

i'm sorry ron but i followed your instructions but i don't see where i can manipulate the style in the properties dialogue. when i select the objects they do not become highlighted. am i missing something?

Command: filter
Applying filter to selection.
Select objects: all
7760 found
7760 were filtered out.
Select objects: *Cancel*

Sorry Dan....I cheated a little   Once every thing was selected I exploded the mtext so all text would be single line.

You can use these filters (paste them into the command line) to separate the two:

(setq s1 (ssget "x"'((0 . "MText"))))

(setq s1 (ssget "x"'((0 . "Text"))))

Or you can use qselect.

Dan,

Instead of using filter you could just bring up the text style dialogue and change each style name in the drawing to point to romans.shx until the drawing regened without scanning.
