AppDev VS LearnDevNow
« on: November 01, 2010, 11:21:16 PM »
For anyone Interested

AppDev Link       LearnDevNow Link

It is the exact same except you do not get the pdf version of the books and the labs solutions since those are in the books.

I really miss having the books, but I paid $69.00(LearnDevNow) for all of the libraries and paid like $300(AppDev) for just the Visual Basic Windows development and that was talking them down.

You can call and talk them down for both

The links are to AppDev C# Windows library at $499.00 and the

LearnDevNow is all the Libraries C#, VB, Sharepoint, Sql Server and any new videos released during your year subscription at $99.00

When I was doing research before I bought it AppDev and LearnDevNow address was same except the Suite number. It could have changed but it seems it just a sister company and when go through the setup all the fine print notes are owned by AppDev.

I have had no problems with them but will probably get an automatic charge when the year ends up so will have to watch out for that but I have been pleased enough to keep it. If you worried about that you can order another card with different number and once you receive it then cancel the first one.

*******************Edited*******************

I paid an extra $10 or $15 for all the Solutions in the LearnDevNow Suite Worth IT!!!!!

Thanks for posting these links Jeff.

I had concerns that LearnDevNow was legit, i.e. I was thinking they were a rip off of AppDev (have used them before; good but expensive), considering the price difference.

Well it appears they are partners.

From the LearnDevNow Terms of Service ...

Quote
LEARNNOW, LLC AND APPDEV PRODUCTS, LLC (AppDev) END-USER LICENSE AGREEMENT (EULA)

THIS IS A LEGAL AGREEMENT.

READ CAREFULLY BEFORE INSTALLING SOFTWARE.

NOTE: This product was created, owned and copyrighted by AppDev Products, LLC and licensed to LearnNow, LLC for resale. Therefore, this EULA is between you, LearnNow, LLC and AppDev Products, LLC.  Refer to the following AppDev Software License Agreement and Disclaimer of Warranty and Limited Warranty prior to beginning the installation process. By installing, copying, or otherwise using the Software, you agree to be bound by the terms of this EULA ...

While not definitive, it does suggest LearnDevNow is legit, though it's odd the license agreement is between AppDev and LearnNow, LearnDevNow.

I think I'll fire an email to AppDev to be sure.

fwiw ... Michael.

Hello Michael,

Thank you for your email.  LearnNow, LLC (owner of http://www.learndevnow.com) is a separate, Internet-only, company that has an exclusive reselling arrangement with AppDev. LearnNow, LLC only licenses our streaming media and sample files. They do not have access to our written courseware, hands on labs, the AppDev Edge site, AppDev support, etc…  Those are the reasons for the difference in price; however they are definitely an official reseller and are legit.

Please do not advertise free of those sites.

I think these books/videos and others are a hoax : ej: mastering vb2005, mastering vb2008, mastering ...and the content is always the same. To learn there are other sources, and also to improve:Try/error, open source projects... I learned vb6 without anyone's help and now I'm learning vb.net without anyone's help and i think i've achieved a good level (although not speak English)

Sorry, sorry,  sorry... In the future try to have more with translations

Hoax. Sorry I have not translated well. (Useless? -en; Inutiles? -es)

Mastering:  I use this word as an example of the titles of some books, only that.

Some do ok, or even better, with self-learning.  Most still require the more traditional approach to instruction, expecially those who only do a little programming as peripheral to their actual job rather than full time.  There's a reason its the traditional way  :-)

I think the key is to understand how you learn and how you learn best. Personally I watch the videos or let them play while I am doing something else then when I need something from them I look it up int the ebooks

Better english than I can see on a number of forums.  I wouldn't have noticed if you didn't mention it.

I am about to give up on LearnDev.

The last 3 or 4 times I have gone there I can not watch the videos because something is messed up with there feed.

It will play 2 seconds then freeze for 2 minutes then another 2 secs etc.................
