Dealing with UAC in Windows 7
« on: September 03, 2010, 02:12:45 PM »
How are you dealing with the User Account Control issues when using Windows 7? (I would imagine Vista has same issue)
For example files that were accessible in XP may not be in Win7. The user may (or may not) get a message that tells them so.

This is true of AutoCAD, Visual Studio, your custom programs etc. Any time the program tries to open, add, edit a file in a "protected" directory the user must deal with the UAC message.
I have taken to modifying my links for VS and ACAD to "Run as Administrator". That seems to help but I wonder if that's the best approach for users.

Your thoughts? How are you dealing with this?
It's amazing what you can do when you don't know what you can't do.

personally, I disabled the UAC.

Sometimes the question is more important than the answer. (Thanks Kerry for reminding me)
