Area help on this part
« on: July 16, 2010, 02:27:44 PM »
Using Windows XP pro & Autocad Mech 2010 here.
The "area" command used on the attached part results in "Area calculation failed." on the command line.
However, the properties dialogue does give a value for area.
Autocad says this is a "LWPOLYLINE".
When I use "CONVERTPOLY" to change it to a "Heavy" polyline, the area command works.
I can find no duplicate objects or overlapping lines and as a test for a closed object, the hatch command does work properly.
I've exploded the object, did a "PEDIT" to convert back to a polyline again, and tried the "EDIT VERTEX" command to follow the perimeter for broken lines.
The only thing that has worked is to convert to the old standard polyline.

I could redraw but what a pain as this is beginning to show up more  & more often.
We had no issues before the develpoement of lwpolylines.

Any clues as to what's going on here?
Thanks for helping!

Tested with vanilla 2008 and 2011 and I didn't have any problems with it.
But the lwpoly isn't closed, so perhaps that's causing your problem.

Thanks Crank.
Dug deeper and found (2) fillets on the left end that were off.
Still doesn't explain why, when converted to a heavy polyline "Area" works ok.
Just another bug in the ointment, I suppose.

Have a good weekend!
