How to modify drawing with TrueView ?
« on: May 01, 2010, 03:13:02 PM »
Hi all.

All know about TrueView is a FREE viewer made by autoDESK.

This week I've learn this:
Using TrueView as an EDITOR is possible !

How to ?
-Open notePad
-write come autoCAD command such as "_GRIPS"
-select all and copy to clipboard.
than..
-Open a session of TrueView
-Paste this command in command line

there it is..
you can now select entity and copy, paste rotate etc..

How come ?
I think autocad forgot to put some reactor on copyclip.  ;-P

But !
I didn't test all commands, but it seem that "SAVE" "QSAVE" and "SAVEAS" command not working..
However, they forgot to remove "_-WBLOCK" command allowing user to save as all AutoCAD format.

 :pissed:

Finally, a way we can let our bosses try out their own little versions of autocad with trueview.  This will keep them busy for days.

But this is an incredible find, Andrea!

This isn't going to turn in to some kind of legal fiasco is it?  When will this "feature" disapear from trueview?  Certainly by the next release.  Bets are currently being taken.

I personally think it's crazy to exploit an oversight, I mean it's only a matter of time before they fix it, so the benefits are short term and at best uncertain -- notwithstanding the ethics. Rhetorical musing ... I wonder how warm the OP would be to someone finding an oversight in the 0dcl run-times that people could exploit so they could distribute and run 0dcl based apps without requiring any licensing. Hmmm.

It looked to me that the OP was disappointed in this dangerous oversight in the software, not overjoyed...

I've tried all I can. but I have found no way of saving / wblocking a file once I have made changes to it, using TrueView.  I should add, that I have been using the 2009 version.
However, it is possible to create non-CAD file formats from the changes i.e. pdf / dwf etc and paper copies.
This in itself, is dangerous.

This kind of information will not be getting shared out amongst my office, as they are all mostly renegeade CAD'ders anyway; a little more information in their armoury would be dangerous imo

Well,...I think the other way...
More we have information about "BUGS" better it will be for CAD manager.
this information must be shared because it is not a cheat or a crack....but a big mistake from AutoDESK.
than, If I didn't share this information..someone else will do.
Also, I've tried "._-wblock" eaven with TrueView 2010...and still working.

for Cad Manager this information is important to know.

These are NOT bugs Andrea.

You're kidding yourself if you really believe that.

If you are so concerned about it, have you advised AutoDesk ??

and I'd be intersested in your explaination of HOW 'you' discovered this functionality.

I don't understand why there is a problem with this.

Someone could NEVER use this software to create dwgs for construction or ????

But someone could modify (and wblock out) drawings that are on the network if they only have access to the viewer and they're, I dunno, ticked off that they only have access to the viewer.

As a CAD manager I found this information to be enlightening. As a CAD manager with Engineers who are upset that they only have access to the viewer I now have an answer should something like the above scenario actually happen.

If you're working on a project and your competitor (who is supposed to be working with you on site) "only has the viewer" and access to your submitted drawings, and it's in the best interests of that competitor to see you fail (or look stupid)... knowing that they could modify your drawings with "just the viewer" is a handy bit of information to have.

Sounds outrageous?

It isn't.

I have seen people walk halfway down the street to cross in the middle of the block through traffic, when they could have gone back 10 feet and used the crosswalk.  Likewise, I've had users open Eagle Point terrain models in ProSteel because they couldn't be bothered.  The best way, or even the easiest way, isn't always the path chosen.

I have three engineers here, two of whom HATE having to come to us for "simple" changes.  They find out about this....I'm screwed!  I'll never be able to trust a dwg again......just saying....... :realmad:
