Text Height in Viewport
« on: March 19, 2010, 04:04:09 PM »
Hello all,

I am using autocad civil 2010.  When I label my contours, create a new layout, do the viewport thing and give it a viewport scale my labels look okay.  However, when I go to plot the layout, the label height goes up and it looks like crap.  Anyone have an idea what is going on?

Thanks in advance

Scott

Are you scaling the plot, or is the layout set to plot 1:1?

Care to send me a copy of the offending file?  Email address is in my profile.

It appears the text height is messed up when the drawing is regenerated.

Just checked, the text style I am using in not annotative.  I switched it to annotative and it didn't make a difference.  I will play with it some more to see what I can come up with.

STYLE

examine the stlyes listed....the annotative ones have a funky symbol next to them...also what happens exactly is is getting scalled UP or down...?

I may have two issues in my way here today (2009 is installed, and I do not have your printer/plotter drivers loaded)
So I might need to download and install 2010, as DWG Trueview does not convert the C3D objects (proxy state warning) upon open in 2009...

The text styles are not set to annotative.  I changed them, but it didn't make a difference.  The text is being scaled up.  When I change my viewport scale I can see the text height change, then the viewport will scale.  All looks good on the screen unless I do a regenall, then the text is scaled up again.  I will then have to change the viewport scale, then change it back to the original scale before the text height will look correct on screen.

this suggests you toggle the option to Annotation Visibility option to Display ONLY annotation scales for the current viewport scale...

The issue with the file is a simple misunderstanding of the Label style text size, and viewport scaling in Civil 3D.

The test size in the label style 0.10", is how large the text will appear in paperspace through the viewport.  Further they were placing contour labels @ approximately 200' along the contour lines.
When the drawing was regenerated the text labels would then scale up, within the viewport and crowd each other and all other graphics.

To 'solve' this issue we looked at two options.

1: change the text size in the label style

2: remove the labels and place them with larger interval between labels

alternately these two could also be combined to clean up the appearance of the graphics.

Along the way we were also able to explore data shortcuts, design center, and named page setups.

Also apologies to Scott for the delay; as I had to cook a hard drive and reinstall 2010 to get to his data.

Well, looks like we came to the same conclusions, Michael. I sent an email to Scott about a half hour ago describing the Text size and how it works in C3D labels. I, too, was delayed in responding...although mine was due to some honey-do's I have to take care of.

I'm glad he's got it under control now.
