me thinks you might want to try a fresh install on another machine (no enablers) and try loading one of your ecw files....
hit F2 and check the command line for any and all messages, then report back here

I was going to suggest that you install the Autodesk Raster Design object enabler, but it appears that they don't offer that for use with LT.

I had to install that to get jp2 files to become insertable in Autocad.  It looks like this object enabler supports the following file types, pasted from the .chm file readme:
Image Format Image Insertable into DWG
DEM No
DOQ Yes
DTED No
Embedded Bitonal No
ECW Yes
ESRI GRID A No
ESRI GRID B No
JPEG2000 Yes
Landsat FAST No
NITF No
QuickBird TIFF No
SID Yes

Judging by http://usa.autodesk.com/adsk/servlet/index?siteID=123112&id=2753223&linkID=9240818 , though, you can't install it for LT.  Bummer.
