Export Station and Elevation
« on: February 04, 2010, 04:19:54 PM »
Hello all,

Is there a way to export station and elevation data from a profile in Civil 2010?  I need to import this data into a spreadsheet.  Exporting to a csv or txt file sure would be faster than manual input.

Thanks in advance

Scott

In Carlson Civil you can do a "Profile Report". I'm not sure Civil 3D but one of the Civil 3D gurus will be along shortly to help you.

Toolbox

Reports Manager

PVI Station & Elevation Report or others

After you run the XML report you may then do a save as...or copy and paste the data into other apps

I tried those, but the report comes back blank.  Any ideas?

are you selecting the profile from the screen or from the dialog with the check boxes?

try selecting from the screen....

also you will need to permit ACTIVE X content to run...

I think the profile data is also include if one Exports a(n) alignment to XML; that is IF the profile information is defined at the time it is exported....

It isn't pretty however it can be copied and reformatted from there

..as it's getting late in Kansas...I might just need to call you or see your data tomorrow

Round about way if the internal report isn't working -

Export data to LandXML file
Open Autodesk LandXML Reporting (under Start > All Programs > Autodesk > AutoCAD Civil ...)
In the program go to File > Open Data File and browse to the XML file you created
Choose the form you need on the Forms tab (it has a Profiles in CSV as well)
Check out the Output tab

Then you can do the saveas option and turn it into the file you need.

Tried to go both routes as far as selecting the check box and selecting the profile off the screen neither worked.

Are you exporting the profile directly (from right-click or toolspace)?  Have you tried exporting the all data from the File menu and then using the LandXML reporting (it'll just pick up what you nerd for each particular report)?

Let's be clear; this is NOT an export operation

It's a Toolbox>>Reports Manager>>Profile Reports....most of which are XSL, or now .NET report forms....

The user should be able to rtclick on the report....and then either let the application select ALL profiles (default) or select the object from screen (option button in lower left quadrant)

Then they click OK, and moments later a browser window opens, along with a prompt about allowing Active X content to run...the user clicks OK the report appears...before that it will look like empty browser window...

I suspect they are perhaps NOT using explorer as default browser....

MJ

I am doing just as you posted in reply to Lin.  However, when the file opens I can see the headings but nothing else.  I emailed you the Landxml I exported from the alignment.  It appears the elevations are exported out that way, just are't that nice to look at.

Scott you may need to dig through your alignment(s) and their respective Profile definitions...is it possible you have profile definitions that Start at Zero and end at Zero, and have 0 as both min and max elevations?

Or are we certain that the profile definition is good?

Let me see what I get from that file....reporting back shortly

OK, the problem is language....the REPORT Scott seems to be after is the EXISTING ground elevations...NOT the DESIGNED profile which is really what these reports are really all about....
let me offer another method

Because even the method Lin-Z is offering is also intended to give DESIGN profile information in the reports.
