[AutoCAD 2009+] Quick Propeties not found in Partial CUI
« on: January 19, 2010, 10:08:22 AM »
Current CUI setup is such that we are all directed towards an enterprise cui with a personal 'partial cui' loaded for user preferences, customizations, etc.

One user came to me, after being introduced to Quick Properties, with the request to add 'length' to the polyline QP palette.  Simple enough, I know how to do that!

...except I cannot customize this in the Partial CUI!  I assumed that QP settings, like any other, would be present in the Partial CUI if requested, and override the Enterprise CUI like anything else.

WRONG!  See screenshot below:

I have the enterprise CUI "CASE.CUIX" loaded which has all the default QP settings.  I show the user-specific partial CUI with QP selected, and right-click-menu shown.  Notice the distinct lack of object options in the pane directly to the right!  All I can change is the "general" settings, with no option to "add" objects to the middle pane...

I'm Googling some more, currently, hoping for a resolution but what should I do, here?  Users -should- be allowed to customize their QP settings past the enterprise CUI settings... that's just logical, and TYPICALLY when I find myself in such a logic-roadblock, I find the fault is not with Autodesk's design, but rather my lack of knowledge... hopefully this is such a case!

Also, for hilarity's sake, notice "Restore Default" is greyed out.

This leads me to believe that I have either not followed the preferred method of creating a partial CUI file for my users, or that there is a gaping oversight in the implementation of Quick Properties customization.

Additionally, there is no ability to use the "Transfer" capabilities in the CUI manager on Quick Properties settings what so ever.

Just got to checking my email at the office today, after having been out.

Quoting the excellent reply here:

Hi Josh,

I understand that AutoCAD 2010 does not have any options to customize the Quick Properties panel.

There’s actually a pretty quick way to populate the list, but it can be easy to miss. The Edit Object Type List button will let you select what to populate the list with.

Here’s a screenshot of the button:

Please let me know if this works for you. If so, you can close the case, or let me know and I can close it for you.

Best regards,

David D.

There's a button that I did not see mention of in any blog, help file, or forum that I searched through.  Nor did I happen to notice it actually BEING there.

This button allows you to select, individually, which entity types you wish to add to the partial CUI for customizing QP palettes.  I really, really like this method, as opposed to having an entirely populated list of ALL object types.  This provides a very easily organized and easily navigated list of customizations to the QP to know what's been changed since the settings the Enterprise CUI set.

Cool beans, satisfied customer, +1 to tech support.

...and nothing makes me feel dumber than someone sending me a screenshot with a giant red arrow pointing at my solution.   :-D
