Easy 3D Cad Modeling
« on: October 07, 2009, 09:06:02 PM »
I am performing a survey for a client. However, the client wants a 3D wire frame of the building. Its a funky looking building and big.
I am a true beginner on 3D Modeling. I just know region, 3dface, command. I know I need 4 viewports.
Anyways, with my insturment, I can do a reflection shot, So I was able to shot all the corners and edges of the building. So I imported the points into CAD, now I am having a hard time averaging out the shots and drawing on the Z,X,Y.

Anyhelp would be great!
Thanks for the help and advise

Since you have the corner shots why don't you see what you can do with 3d polylines. You can connect the points and go from there.

If I may see the data, I might suggest something other than...

3d primitives like a box and or and extrusion of the basic foot print,
and then using the weird shots at overhangs and eves, or other architectural nuances (nuisances)
and use those shots to construct slicing planes to chop that extruded footprint solid into a more reasonable facsimile of the actual structure....

now if you share some data; there might be a faster method.

2 square boxes.  Can't get much easier than that.

yes, two Extrudes of the foot print, or two different boxes...

then use the Material properties to Map those photos onto the sides of the box and it should render nicely as well

or one could draw the metal patern....and then Extrude the walls up....however I think that would be overkill

Are your lines flat?  Sounds like they aren't.

New question. Can you in ACAD place a picture wrap of a building on top of the frame I am creating?

type in MATERIALS.....and do what I said...

you may need to map that image on face by face...as getting your picture to perfectly shrinkwrap around the 3d boxes you've created will be very trick...

as it is you will net to experiment some with the U,V,W mapping coordinates of your matierial (the image file used as a(n) bumb map, onto thoes planes neatly

also as you apply your materials to the object, rember to hold down the CTRL key so that you can assign the material onto each face properly, instead of globaly to the solid
