Special Characters in Layer Names

Quick one here...
Does anyone see a problem with using an ampersand (&) in a layer name?

Displays the selected layer name, which can be edited. The name can include letters, numbers, blank spaces, and any special character not used by Microsoft®  Windows® or AutoCAD for other purposes.

I don't see any problems....on another note, I've had problems detaching xrefs that have # in the name. Anyone else seen this?
