Objects not in space....
« on: July 08, 2009, 06:19:20 PM »
I have this file driving me crazy.
Crashes 2010 MEP when I try to setbylayer and say yes to update the blocks.
I tried -ExportToAutoCAD, 2010 MEP did not remove the aec content or save it down.
Older products were able to open the file but prompted about the content being aec and newer, the choice to run -ExportToAutoCAD would change them to proxy objects and remove aec formatting.....
So 2010 MEP is not removing aec content nor saving it down to older releases.

What is worse is when I try to select all objects, I am prompted in the command line that two objects do not exist in current space. I was able to manipulate the file just fine with 2007 AutoCAD after I saved it to R14. But the phantom objects still bother me a great deal.
I deleted the layouts and deleted the viewport, still the same prompt from model space.
The volume of blocks makes it a nightmare to figure out which block has the objects.
Any idea how to find them?
I already manually selected the building and pasted it into a new drawing before trying any of this.
Still objects that don't exist in current space. :ugly: :|

DXFOUT & DXFIN seemed to have no effect either.
Except becoming a huge dxf bloated file.

OK, you lost me. 2 objects not in current space?
Quote from: ACAD

Command: setbylayer

Current active settings: Color Linetype Lineweight Material
Select objects or [Settings]: all
22485 found
14172 were not in current space.

Select objects or [Settings]: s

Current active settings: Color Linetype Lineweight Material
Select objects or [Settings]:

Change ByBlock to ByLayer? [Yes/No] <Yes>: y

Include blocks? [Yes/No] <Yes>:

1490 objects modified, 6823 objects did not need to be changed.
There are 9 layouts with all kinds of sheet-type stuff on them.

Using C3D2010 as AutoCAD.

My apologies Jeff,
I was left with 2 objects not in space after deleting all layouts and even the default Layout1 viewport.
I audited and purged the file afterwards.
Still 2 objects not in current space.

OK, KT, that's what I thought but had to be sure. I just deleted all the layouts, but, of course, a new one is auto-added back in. With it was autocreated a new viewport. Then a select ALL gave me the "2 not in current space" notification which is what I would expect. 1 is the Paperspace viewport, and 1 is paperspace itself.

Thanks for clearing that up Jeff.
I was afraid to assume that fact.

Is there a way to view an AutoCAD file as code around?
Not just the variables but the content as well?

You're welcome.

The old-school method of viewing the drawing was to save as a DXF, then it's all just text and numbers. But, with C3D and, I think, all the other style-based Verticals, the custom objects (walls, pipes, structures, etc.) do not have dxf codes so they get lost in the translation.

Yeah but this file at its smallest 600 KB became 14 MB in R12 dxf when I tried it.
Left me scratching my head a bit.

Umm sorry I thought this was the remake of "Pigs in Space .....".

My bad, I will be moving along.
I + XI = X is true ...  ... if you change your perspective.

I no longer CAD or Model, I just hang out here picking up the empties beer cans
