PGP files in Lite
« on: June 09, 2009, 09:16:48 am »
For 2010, Autodesk decided to change where you find the pgp file in Lite.  It is no longer in the files\customization drop-down.

I spent hours last night looking for access to the pgp and finally found that you have to drag the pgp icon button to a tool bar.  I couldn't find a direct keyboard command.  Aliasedit only works in full Acad.

It's still there: Tools-->Customize-->Edit Program parameters.

It's also on the ribbon -- Manage tab, Edit Aliases.
Yes, I work for Autodesk. No, you don't have to censor your opinion. I can take it.

I'll have to play with it some more tonight.  I had the tools, but no customize.  I killed the ribbon straight away so I can't comment on that.

O.K., I'm home now and I cranked up the ACAD Lt.

I'm going to attempt to attach a screen shot.  If it's successful, you will see my Tools drop down but there is no Customize on it.

I have ACAD configured as closely to "Classic" as I can.  I'm running Vista 64 bit on a HP Notebook.

Thanks for any help I can get.

I thought at first you had not quite gotten rid of the ribbon and were using it fully collapsed.  Your screen still doesn't look like any of the "classic" workspaces I have seen with 2010, but I think you may be seeing a screen resolution issue instead the more I look at that pulldown.  First make SURE that you have the legacy menu enabled by selecting the little arrow just above the "tool" pulldown as seen in your picture.  There should be a check mark beside "show menu".  Then issue the command "ribbon" and select "off" if not already so set.  If all is this way you don't have the correct vertical resolution for the pulldown to work properly.  You may get to become familiar with that ribbon yet.

 yep ... fooled me!  I liked the thing well enough I never tried to turn it off.   :lmao:

Again Bob, you may want to give ribbon a fair shot.  It is definitely different and I can see it would not be as much improvement for LT over the difference in Civil 3D, but this is the first time I have really been impressed with an Autodesk interface since DOS 12.

I DESPISE the ribbon....period end of discussion.

I think they should have spent their resources FIXING things that do not work as they should instead of adding some play-doh icon interface on top of the same busted-don't-work as it should (or 'as advertised') application(s)!

Give us FUNCTIONING functions NOT eye candy!

I guess I was just happy to see ANY improvement to the interface after 5 years.  I never did find a toolbar layout that included everything I thought I wanted and fit logically on my monitor.  It probably helps that my new gig imposed the Office 2007 ribbon on us last fall.  At least Autodesk saw fit to provide a way to get the legacy menus back where I have yet to find an acceptable way to do that in the Office suite.

ahhh, Steven....

toolbars are really not the way to use C3D (maybe a cross post from here to there on this?)

or one creates more compact versions (customized) such that you use fly-outs, and scrap the buttons you RARELY use remembering that in most cases the ARX/context sensitive menus cover most all things one can or should do the object one has gripped....

you will discover that pull down menus, and a select few toolbars (customized) will greatly improve your productivity without the need for acres of video screen(s) realestate....

agreed some reverse interfacing is better than none, however that too may be removed sooner than later :|

I think Dino might be onto something with the screen resolution issue.  First, I want to confirm that ACAD lt 2010 still has "customize" under the tools drop down.  Then I'll screw around with screen resolution; on my screen shot, it looks like there may be more drop down below the lower screen edge.  I set up this computer in geezer mode with large fonts, etc. so that could be it.  Ya think?

I'll change resolution settings tonight and see if "customize" pops up.

Thanks, everybody.

Here's what I found out tonight.  When Acad is full-screen, the bottom of my drop down is cut off and I can't scroll down it.

When I reduce Acad to less than full screen and drag that screen as high as it goes, I can see enough of the drop down to hit the scroll-down arrow, and there is the rest of the menu.

Where are those knobs that let you adjust the width and height of your screen?

Happy evening.

I generally keep AutoCAD as a floating window anyway.  It can be sized to something very close to full screen and if desired, a non docked pallet can be placed outside the window to one side and set to autohide.  I have managed to get 4 or 5 pallets set this way in Civil 3D on laptops and even smallish 17 desktop monitors.  They take up very little room, don't obscure any tool bars and readily accessible.

That you did . . . some 5 or 6 weeks beyond 4 years ago if memory serves and in about the most opposite possible corner of the continent from your present location.  It is amazing how one can cram 2 very full 21" wide screens of display onto a 15" laptop with that trick.  It has even kept my then new 17" LCD in the game (even with that hated ribbon fully expanded  )
