DWG Modification and General Interaction Without AutoCAD
« on: February 27, 2009, 12:32:18 PM »
To whom ever may help,

For the past couple of months, I have been developing internal applications for my current company (converting old LISP routines, modifying our management system etc.) however I was just approached with an interesting proposition.  My current employer would like our admin staff to have the ability to plot and view various attributes contained within DWGs without having AutoCAD installed.

Is this possible with the AutoCAD APIs or will I be forced to find an alternative?

I wish.  Sadly my boss wants a majority of the processes automated for our side.  Binding of X-refs, Batch Plotting etc.  I was hoping to do this from a simple interface without any need for additional software.

There's really no easy way to access AutoCAD DWG files without
AutoCAD installed or a RealDWG license or the DWGDirect libraries
from Open Design Alliance.

Thanks.  I may have to pressure my boss into getting a working library then.

I'm really interested in seeing how you'd do that Randy.

Do which?  The DWGTrueConvert module within DWGTrueView will batch bind xref's during conversion, and TrueView allows batch plotting.

It's amazing what you can do when you don't know what you can't do.
