AutoCAD 2009 Crashes on Drawings that open fine in 2008
« on: February 19, 2009, 11:20:43 AM »
All,

I'm about at my wits end with '09. I have certain files now that will open, but as soon I pan...it locks up the computer for a second then kicks me out of AutoCAD or shows the window "Autocad has encountered a problem....bla bla bla".

Steps I've already taken:
1. uninstall\reinstall\repair AutoCAD
2. Tried three different video drivers
3. Reinstalled AutoCAD 2008 on another computer and opened the file just dandy again.
4. Opened the file in '08 and saved back to R14...still crashy in '09.
5. Checked the Event Viewer..each time I crash it's related to Event ID's 1000\1001
1000
Faulting application acad.exe, version 23.2.608.0, faulting module heidi9.dll, version 9.2.56.0, fault address 0x000cf61d.
Faulting application acad.exe, version 23.2.608.0, faulting module ac1st17.dll, version 17.2.608.0, fault address 0x00003287.
Faulting application acad.exe, version 23.2.608.0, faulting module dswhip.dll, version 17.2.608.0, fault address 0x00040e92.

Fault bucket 1139962795.

Other than going back to '08...does anyone else have any other ideas to fix this?

BTW...it's not just my computer here in the office.

Thanks,

Ron

You got SP2 installed?

Also have you gone to add/remove programs and tried running a repair on 2009?
I have registry failures with peoples worsktations periodically and have to run the repair.
It sounds like the drivers are wrong for the 2009 version.
Are you using the same ones from 2008?
Because I have had this happen when trying to use 2008's drivers with 09 too.

One quick way to check is rename the current profile to trash and reload the stock profile as well.

KewlToyZ ,

Thanks for the idea to start with a blank profile...it worked. I traced it to the WHIPTHREAD variable which I had been setting to 3....apparently bad mojo (funny...seems like i had this problem years ago and swore to never mess with that variable again) When I put it back to 1 all worked well. Could someone else test this drawing with WHIPTHREAD set to 1 then set to 3 and see if it crashes AutoCAD 2009?

Thanks,

Ron

Opened fine with WHIPTHREAD = 1, and 3 in Vanilla '09.

Thanks for testing DGCS...it's definitely the culprit here.
