Object and polar tracking

I only have 2008+ versions installed here, but I'm experimenting with my own polartracking function in lisp.
In what release of Autocad did Autodesk replace the extension lines of the tracking angle for an X in the through point?

Must be a driver issue, because I only see this in Acad2008. I could also be a variable that I don't know of.
