Layer Merge doesn't work
« on: November 19, 2008, 04:13:41 PM »
I have a dwg with Room Number & Room Name in the same attribute, but they are each on their own layer. I used the block editor & changed them both to RoomNumbers within Block editor, but the change isn't reflected once I leave the editor.

So, I tried laymrg -it goes thru the process without errors, but doesn't do the merge.

So, I copied one of these blocks to a totally new dwg and did the laymrg and it worked great.

All Layers are Unlocked of course.

Do any of you have any ideas as to what is preventing it in the original dwg?

Did you regen afterwards?  Sometimes AutoCAD needs a kick in the butt.

Did you try attsync to update the attributed block?

Unfortunately not an option in LT.

I would love to find a solution to this. We run into Blocks like this often, and I REALLY prefer them as ONE Layer.

Edited - I apologize, I posted this question before and found the problem then -

There is a block in our Titleblock that for some reason prevents the 'laymrg' from working. IF I erase then purge our block, the 'laymrg' works fine.

I will have to check out that block to see what it's problem is.

Your drawing needs recovery, so try AUDIT command. After then issue LAYMRG command again.
If again LAYMRG doesn't work, exit drawing and open it with RECOVER command.

The problem is most likely a 'nested' layer within that block.

ATTSYNC is not available in LT??  that sux.

The issue is the attribute defined in the existing blocks remains on the old layer until those blocks are 'sync'ed with the new definition.  It is akin to changing the layer of an attribute in an individual insertion of the block (command line version -attedit allows you to change the layer of an attribute) .  THAT instance of the block will ALWAYS have that layer associated with that attribute.

WBLOCK'ing that block builds a DWG from the current block definition, where the attribute and block are same layer.

Next time try the other way around: In the LAYMRG command, keep the layer that you don't need.
After that you can rename it to the layer that just has been deleted.
