wysiwyg and perspective views...
« on: November 19, 2008, 01:18:13 PM »
Hello all,

Here's what I'm trying to do. In model, space I want to move my orbit around, set it to perspective, and then get a 2d block that looks like the perspective view. I've been able to do this with the parallel view. It took some trial and error, but it worked. Is it possible for me to get the perspective view, and make it into a 2d block. It is easier for me to pass a 2d block to my other ppl.

My process for the parallel is...
use orbit to get the correct angle and look of the objects.
use ucs and set it equal to the view.
name the usc. So it is easier to find again.
rotate the ucs around the x-axis -90.
draw my modeling section line.
correct for any off placement.
then create 2d block section of the entire object.

This gives me a nice 2d block exactly like my view from the beginning, but it is a parallel. Any ideas on how to make this a perspective block?

Thanks all,
Alex

A work around would be either to have a hiiden line viewport, or take a screenshot of the view you want and pull it in as a raster image.

Flashshot... great command.
But, will only work with a parallel view. I did find it cool that if you are set in perspective view when doing the command that it will create a 3d line block of the object. That was cool. I still can not get a perspective 2d block.
I'm still thinking it can't be done.

Here is the file. In one vport you will find the object in parallel, and in the other perspective. Run the flatshot command in both vports and see what happens.

<Nick Burns> You're welcome! </Nick Burns>

All I did was change the UCS in one of the views to WORLD and *voila*!!

Wow, that is creepy... I actually posted a comment telling Matt he was wrong with Nick Burns tags saying "MOVE OVERRRRRRRRR"

Then I tried it on a simple box in model space, and it worked... and deleted the post before my shame was revealed.

But it did work for me.  UCS was set to world, as well, though, did not try it with a custom UCS

Here's the same file, and what I did.
Chose the "angle" ucs.
set it to the current plan.
orbit and made the view perspective.
set the view like I want it.
Then set the ucs to world.
run the flatshot command.
The resulting block is in the back ground.
I am using acad2007. Will this make a difference, or is there some system variable I am missing?

BTW thanks to all,
Alex

The wierd part of the block is that it is 3D not 2d. I want to know how you were able to the perspective 2D block. I'm not doing something correctly. Or is it something that 2007 has problems with.

I'm gonna guess that it's because the 3D model on the left is a block.  If I explode it then run FLATSHOT again the resulting block is 2D.

Matt,

Yes you were correct, the solid objects on the left were a block. I exploded that, did the same procedure and the result was the same. It came up with a 3D block. I'm guessing it has to do with vanilla 2007.

I have vanilla autocad and have no problem creating perspective flatshots... :/

I was in the WCS when I made it (noticed someone saying it might've made a dif) and exported the flatshot block to a new file... opened the file, and wham, there was a perspective view, as I saw it before.

I have another way but it does require betterwmf. I've used it for years to create images for documentation.

http://www.furix.com/products/betterwmf/

Get the model in the correct orientation, in perspective.

Invoke hide command.

Start Betterwmf. (Copies to clipboard, changes background to white, alters lineweights)

Paste special > autocad entities.

I get a really quick, flat set of acad lines.

No reason not to use wmfout in this particular case.

I'm that used to using bwmf...

I use the application because it crops the wmf to the extent of the entities (wmfout doesn't)

One way of getting a WYSIWYG perspective for any AutoCAD version (well except LT) is to plot to a DBX type file, then DBXIN - the downside is everthing is broken into small line segments.

actual perspective, as in the sysvar you can toggle also named perspective.

the problem was that sometimes it RESULTED in an axonometric projection... which was subsequently solved in the above posts.

Was a combo of ensuring WCS was active, and you weren't using the commands on a BLOCK entity, iirc, with a sprinkling of varying versions affecting the outcome.
