Drawing pipe fitting - 2D

I tried to draw a 1" - 45 deg long radius welded fitting per ASA B16.9 specs I found on line.  Using the supplied centerline radius of 1.5" and knowing both the I.D. (1.049") and the O.D. (1.315") I laid out the fitting.  It seemed fine.  But when I check the distance "B" (center to face) instead of getting the .875 per the spec I get .6213.  What did I do wrong?  Anybody here deal with piping?  Thank you.

I've got my Pipe Fitters Manual open to page 20 and I see the data you posted.  Got a couple of fires to put out, then I will try a layout for you. 

People here are pretty exceptional so you will probably get a solution before I can get back to you.

Yeah, I see what you mean.  I laid it out and you need a 2.1124 inch radius to get the 7/8" tangent (B dimension).

Obviously I'm not a piper and I'll have to check more books at home.  My pipefitters manual shows a 1 1/2" long radius for 90 degree and 180 degree fittings but nothing for 45 degree fittings.  Are we sure the radius is supposed to be 1 1/2" for these?

I am positive.  Found it detailed this way at two different sites.  Thanks, Bob.  For a moment there I thought I had missed something.  Tried to post a .dwg but apparently I got that wrong too.

Have a look at the grips on this ... the end does NOT terminate at the tangent point ..

added:  this is a metric fitting drawn by one of my apps ... but your details are probably similar
kdub, kdub_nz in other timelines.

Thanks for that reference drawing.  However, I have a fitting on my desk at the moment and I can asure you that there are no straight segments on either end.  This is not like specing out a flanged and dished head with a straight flange on it.

We use tons of stainless weld elbows, tees etc. here and I've checked some 1" 45 degree elbows.  They all come out at 7/8" center to face, and all have about a 1/4" straight section on both faces.  For kicks and grins, I had the shop cut a 90 degree elbow in half....one face measured 7/8" cen-to-face, and the "cut" face measured 5/8" cen-to-face, leading me to believe that there actually is a straight section on 45 degree elbows.

Could the two different measurements, 7/8" and 5/8", been the result of the saw blade thickness?
Never tried sawing the fitting we're discussing but, ANSI fitting dimensions are right on.
