corners on dashed polylines with width....

Just a quicky...if you draw a polyline with width and linestyle dashed, how do you get the corners to be neat, and not broken?

Instead of giving the polyline its own thickness, put them on a layer, and give the layer a lineweight ?

mmmmm...Blue, I've never used that before...wanna talk me through how that's done.

In the meantime I'll have a play with it......

Thanks, mate.

is it anything to do with the linetypegen?

in enabled the linetype is the same dash length and gap all the way round, but if its disabled each segment will start and end with a line.

is that what you want?
Thanks for explaining the word "many" to me, it means a lot.

ok Alan, Let's presume you want a polyline that will show up on your paper as being 1mm wide, blue in colour and dashed.
I would create a layer called (for this example) Polyline, set its colour to be 5, it's linetype to Dashed, and its lineweight to be 1mm.
Set the layer created above to be the current layer, ready to be drawn upon.
Then I would draw the polyline.
That's presuming that jonesy is on the right track also.

Sorry Tracey, I've already looked at plinegen...doesn't help at all.

Blue...your possibility just draws a pline at width 0. I haven't tried to plot that to see what happens at plot time. Maybe I should do that now.....be back shortly......

you need to switch your LWDISPLAY to on to see its width on screen Alan

Okay.....what happens is the outside of the corners plots rounded. Could be a cui setting. But the main thing is lineweights don't comply with required thickness. In other words, a thickness of 2mm is not achieved by setting lineweight to 2mm. I'm going to have a play with the corners in the ctb file........be back again soon.....

Wow.....thank you very much Blue.

You are still a guru. I'm still really impressed with your knowledge. That worked. I'm amazed. Thank you, thank you, thank you.

Now to put all that in some form of text. It really is a complicated way to go about it.

Maybe you should suggest to Tiger it will make a great FAQ......

Once again...thanks a heap mate.
