(AutoCAD LT) .pdf rotates during printing
« on: October 06, 2008, 12:07:33 PM »
I have a .pdf that I did the 'insert' - 'OLE' - '.pdf' into MSpace.

It all looks good on my screen, but when I print it, the .pdf is rotated clockwise 90°.

Do any of you have any ideas as to what is causing this?

Try changing the printer driver from (for example) 8.5x11 to 11x8.5.  I've seen simliar things happen with images.  Changing the driver has helped in some cases.  In others.... not so much.

I had this happen to me with images.  Check your auto rotate settings and plot upside check box.  It is what I did YMMV
I + XI = X is true ...  ... if you change your perspective.

I no longer CAD or Model, I just hang out here picking up the empties beer cans

Plot upside down isn't it.

I can't find any 'autorotate' to check. The help file doesn't mention one.

Where do you find one?

Well, I have it narrowed down to it only does it when pasted into MSpace.

I tried inserting it into PSpace and it prints fine.

I checked out the 'properties' of the Viewport and don't see anything about 'Autorotate' or 'Rotate'.

Don't forget to restart AutoCAD after making changes to the PDF printer settings.  They won't take affect until you do.

This has happened to me when the PDF print settings were set to portrait and the AutoCAD plot settings were set to landscape.

Welcom to the fun, exciting world of OLE in AutoCAD.  Sometimes it works fine, sometimes not, sometimes it does really bizarre things.  If it works for you putting it in pspace, do that.

What happens if you paste the OLE object in the drawing AND add ... a piece of text or something at the orientation you're expecting?  Does everything get rotated or just the OLE?

I finally found an 'AutoRotate' in the print area of the .pdf.

I un-checked that, saved the file then re-inserted it into a different dwg and it prints fine.

Apparently, when Autodesk prints, it prints IT's stuff with it's own settings, then pulls the printer settings for the OLE from the OLE and uses those.

Thanks for all of the help,

Good thinking, but alas it isn't checked.

I didn't think about checking there until your post.

I finally said the heck with it and just inserted it into PSpace and moved on.

Thanks anyway,

That would be because of autodesk and the stupid subscription program giving them license to NOT fix issues release after release.  Say thank you to autodesk, and every customer that willing subscribes to this form of 'product development'

Rotating OLE objects

Published date: 2006-Sep-13 ID: TS1059077

Applies to:
AutoCADŽ 2009
AutoCADŽ 2008
AutoCADŽ 2007
AutoCADŽ 2006
AutoCADŽ 2005
AutoCADŽ 2004

Issue

When you tried to rotate an inserted OLE object, the object only moved around the point of displacement and the display angle did not change.

OLE objects also may not appear in rotated plot or publish output.

Solution

It is not possible to rotate an inserted OLE object or perform a rotated plot or publish operation on OLE data. In general, OLE objects have fewer modifcation options than other drawing objects.

If rotation is required, consider one of the following alternate methods for inserting external data into your drawing......

Notice they do not even bother to change the date of the knowledge base document....they just keep adding the new version to the list of product that it DOES NOT function in....2009 wasn't even released in the year 2006!
