Has any one had a problem with a low memory error with Map3d 2009? When I try to import a shape file that has a pretty substantial amount of point data, I get a fatal error low memory message.  If any one has experienced this were you able to fix it and how?

tell me what is your system RAM, free disk space, and paging file size?

I have 4 GB of RAM 33.1 GB of free space, and my paging file size is 152 MB

Send me that file to test.


Also try setting a larger page file size, and set the min and max to be the same.

I dont think I will be able to, its 593kb, i upped my page file size to 4 gigs, I will try that. I didnt have a problem loading the shape files im Map 3d 08 thats why I am thinking that it may be a problem with the software.  I have posted a similar thread on the autodesk website and it seems that there are several people experiencing the same problem.

Yesterday I got a chance to play around with map a little more, I got a few large shape files loades and thought that it was going to work, well I tried to import some parcel data and the same thing happened (the error).  I even tried going to a new sheet and starting with the parcel data and it wouldnt load. So I dont think that it is one particular file that I am having a problem with.  I never had the problem with 08, once I got all the shape files that I wanted on my map, it would move real slow, but never tell me that my memory was low.  I dont know what the problem could be. I will send you the file if you thing that will help, but I dont think it is one particular file.  What is your RAM and such?

discussing my system specifications BEFORE you send me data to see if I CAN process it with no error would be step TWO.

send me samples of your data.  please.  or I can not help further.

All of your data processes (Import Shape, and Created Object Data Tables) just fine.
This is on a the Training Laptop running 'only' 2GB of RAM. Also this is using MAP 3D inside of Civil 3D.
My guess is you do not want the DWG files, as that only gets you a drawing not a solution.
Perhaps this is the moment where a a phone conversation reveals the solution?



Command:
Command: _mapimport 13313 object(s) inserted in 2 sec(s) Meters.shp
Command: _mapimport 21669 object(s) inserted in 3 sec(s) Poles.shp
Command:  MAPIMPORT 8783 object(s) inserted in 3 sec(s) B????_Parcels.shp (file name altered for non disclosure)

Although it appears the meters and poles data, are in or one a different coordinate zone from the parcel data. That has no impact on importing the shape files. And these are not inordinately large files compared to other data sets.

If you are accessing this data from a server, or remote location. Try bringing a copy of the data local to eliminate possible network issues.

Or try MAP>>OPTIONS>>System Tab and Clear the MAP Data Cache.
Also verify you have access and permissions to the default cache file directory.

This may be a dumb question but I was wondering if you imported all three shape files into one map, or did you load them individually? You mentioned a phone conversation, Who do you reccomend or were you referring to you and I?

Yes, I brought all the files into one drawing, one by one. And they were happy.


Your should have number to dial in your in-box.


UPDATE:

Chatted with user and MAP imports the data just fine.
Working with a few files, to receive low memory warning message.
Appears to be an issue with XP, MAP, and memory management.

THats ok buddy, I appreciate the help. Things started working better, I figured out that once I get the error, if I shut dowm map and open the map file it works a little bit longer. So after shutting down map about 4 times I finnaly got a descent map started  :lol:.  Now I am importing subdivisions, If they dont "pop" into place and I have to move them I get a fatal error (some times)!! Yipee! But hey, at least I can get a map started :-D

Word is autodesk is frantically trying to fix MAJOR problems with memory allocation and 2009.
