Why does this print Light?
« on: May 06, 2008, 02:20:03 PM »
The two Rectangles in the attached dwg print very light.

I have changed the lineweight, linetype & color to 'bylayer' and it still prints very light.

These are from an old dwg in our archives - unsure how old.

To fix the problem, I just re-drew them, but I would still like to know why they print that way.

Do any of you know why?

They are TRACE objects and not LINES.

Code: [Select]
Command line: trace

Specify trace width <current>:  Specify a distance or press ENTER
Specify start point:  Specify a point (1)
Specify next point:  Specify a point (2)

Specify next point:  Specify a point (3) or press ENTER to end the command

The endpoints of a trace are on the center line and are always cut square. TRACE automatically calculates the correct bevels for connection to adjacent segments. AutoCAD delays drawing each segment until you either specify the next segment or press ENTER. Because of the way bevels are handled, TRACE has no undo option.
Traces are solid filled when Fill mode is on. When Fill mode is off, only the outline of a trace is displayed.

How long has TRACE been around?!?

WOW!  :-o

I'll just keep on using my PLINES.

Just FYI - Trace is a printed circuit term.  It serves a completely different purpose than lines.  I can't think why anyone would try to draw with them.  Them were the good old days!

V1.4
But that doesn't explain why they are plotting lighter...

It prints just fine for me.  It might be looking for an old or no-existant plotstyle.

Those blasted traces show up from time to time - it's been a while though.

I don't understand why they would print lighter though, unless it is the 'plotstyle' thing - which I know nothing about.

(Plotstyles - ANOTHER thing to learn about)

I've run into similar problems when we get CAD files from other sources.  I just ran it with the standard "monochrome" plot style.  That seems to fix things most of the time.
