( OT ) FWIW
« on: April 23, 2008, 08:56:05 AM »
When I started theswamp I envisioned a place where newbies and seasoned online veterans alike could coexist peacefully and professionally. And I feel like we've achieved that goal with the exception of a few bumps along the way. In recent weeks some members, including myself, feel like we are straying a bit from the friendly, professional attitude we show each other and newcomers alike, that is the last thing I want to see happen. So please, try to be courteous, friendly and professional to everyone here, I would really appreciate it.

thank you

I agree whole heartedly - The professionalism and friendlyness is what keeps me coming back and learning SOOOOO much. - Even better when I can actually help someone else.

But, as evidenced many times, there are always going to be those that for no other reason than being bored, will stir things up - just for the fun of it.

Unfortunately, some of us fall into the trap and give them just what they are after.

I will try to do better and just ignore the trap(s),

I love this place - Thanks again, Mark.

I'm your typical conflict-avoidance type personality so you won't get a peep out of me.

Mark.

Honestly, by creating this place you have done a great service to all in the CAD community. Not only have you provided a place for us to ask questions and get rock solid answers you have also given us a place to vent and openly discuss any subject our heart desires.

As far as the unprofessional behavior is concerned, 9 times out of 10 it's just something taken out of context. A good comparison is text messaging on cell phones. My fiancee has a thing for sending text messages and a lot of times either of us will get upset for no reason. A good example would be her sending me a text that says "XXX and XXX are coming over tonight to watch XXX, is that ok?" and I reply with a simple "Fine". Now she can't tell that by "fine" I mean "yeah that's fine" or if it's some form of sass which results in her getting bent out of shape. If she had called and had heard the tone of my voice, etc. there wouldn't be hard feelings but as it's only text it is usually taken the wrong way. That's the biggest problem with internet forums and the likes, it's just text. It makes it almost impossible to tell what message a person is trying to convey because you can't tell the tone, emphasis, etc. that a person is placing on a sentence. While they type it it might seem witty as they sound it out in their head but when another reads it perhaps it could come across as insulting or harsh.

...are coming over tonight to watch XXX, is that ok?

If my wife told me that she invited people over to watch porn I would put a little more effort into my response.  :?
