User time logging?
« on: August 25, 2004, 03:28:22 PM »
Does anone know of a program that will allow me to remotely log who opens any drawings how long they work on them?

I want to log how much work my CAD department actually do.

I went through the CAD log book today and in the last quarter I produced 64% of all the drawings done, 24% by the engineers and 12% the remainder of the CAD department.

I'd like a way to be more accurate with the production statistics, as this would better enable me to manage my resources.

No need to do it remotely. Any AutoCAD session could be triggered (reactored) to write open, save, plot, close etc. details to a log to a common point on your network, or to a dwg resident dictionary which can be later harvested.

You'd have to factor in that some of the staff will work faster than others on the same drawing, some leave the AutoCAD drawings open all day, while others save and close them for toilet and fag breaks.Im sure though generally it would give you a good indication of who's slacking and who's not.

The program I recominded detects which window or drawing is active and if the keyboard or mouse is being used. If not, after a preset time will show inactivity in thay drawing. If you switch to another drawing or program, say internet exployer, the drawing time is stopped until you return. It also has a pop up you can use to logg time away from the computer for telephone calls, bathroom breaks, etc.
