Full Screen Cursor
« on: February 28, 2008, 08:26:34 PM »
I used to use a full screen cursor because it helped me make alignment checks without "draggin' a line".  Then I switched to a small cursor because it was more entertaining to my cat when she lies on my desk and watches me cad at home.

Just curious, how do you set your cursor?  And why?

Thx.

I always suggest use of a small cursor so the user doesn't attempt to EYEBALL a line when they should use orthogonal lock or an osnap to draw they line accurately.

Full screen...

Again, old habits, I guess.  See little use of the piddly little default thing.

I hated the little one when they made it default in r14 and still have no use for it.  The first thing I do with a fresh install is make real full size cross hairs with a slightly warmer tint than the standard "9" and dump the scroll bars.  Sorry MJF but that is the one suggestion of yours that I actively ignore.  I guess it is just a carry over from my Etch A Sketch training.

I started working with Caddie - Its a South African CAD package. It had a full screen crosshair cursor.  When I swithed over to Autocad, it was the first variable that I have ever set.

Full screen, color 30.

In my early days I used to find it very distracting having those lines flying around the screen. When I got into drawing building systems for large commercial buildings, I saw almost everyone using full screen. It finally dawned on me that it made navigating around the plans much easier and like you, Bob, I use it for a quick alignment check. I set my grips small so I can easily check insertion and midpoint alignments, also.

cursor is set to 70 and pickbox is set to 3.

I like almost a full screen cursor for eyeballing things just as a double check.

Snaps are always set to center, endpoint, midpoint and occassionally quadrant.  I use point filters and tracking to make sure i'm actually aligned.  the eyeballing is only as a visual dbl check.

CAD Monkey Check: Set the color of the cursor the same color as the background :-D and see if he/she can figure it out.

DataCAD cursor color changes with the active color.  This can suck with some of the darker colors and a lot of entities on a screen.  But you get used to it.

We can also switch between full screen and and adjustable small cursor by just hitting the + key.  I typically use a small one set to 20.

I think it's default.

I also have the XYZ tinting turned on.  I do 3d from time to time, as well as mess with the current UCS often, so it helps a lot.
