Hatch boundaries too general
« on: December 03, 2008, 09:34:38 AM »
I have a rather large floor plan that i need to hatch a border around.  The edge of the floor plan is rather intricate but all my objects are closed plines.  When I hatch I use the 'pick point' and 'retain boundary'.  My problems are the hatches are 'generalizing' some of my intricate corners and not going all the way in to the plines.  Is there a setting I may have changed that I didn't know about cause I don't think this has happened before?

In the picture below the blue line is supposed to mimic the yellow line.

I've had this problem too.  I didn't find a "cure" but as a workaround, I had to completely move the line defining my hatch boundary away from the drawing, hatch it, then move the hatch over to the drawing.

Not a right way, but it worked.

The thing is, I only have the boundary plines.  Everything else is turned off so it doesn't interfere with the hatch.

Did you try creating a separate boundary, prior to hatching ?

When I hatch I use the 'pick point'...

Have you tried SELECT OBJECTS?  What kind of results do you end up with?

The way my building is setup it is sprawled out very large and is not very probable to 'select objects'.  I have a bunch of closed plines and some more closed plines within those (kind of like an outline of a building).

It works here... does not do what you have on that image....

Using AutoCAD 2007

- Island detection - on
- Island display - normal

- Tolerance - 0"

this is exactly what I do when hatches aren't cooperating... works like a charm, move on.

So the answer is , No, there isn't a setting somewhere.  So why does it do this?  It hasn't done this before.

What I have done in the past is to add hidden lines to break up the hatch area so you can zoom in.
Zooming in will pick up the hatch areas missed.

Yeah, I know this will work I just didn't want to have too.
