(Microstation) Ch-Ch-Ch-Ch-Changes
« on: October 19, 2007, 11:22:01 AM »
I'm a) having a bad day, b) hate working for this client and / or c) just plain fed up.

I want to make my Microstation function more like my AutoCAD.  I know that sounds like a really ... stubborn old geezer thing to do, but I don't even care anymore.

I want my keyins to work... I hate having to use menu pulldowns and buttons all the time.  I hate how it takes me twice as long to do something in Micro as it would in AutoCAD...

Argh!

Poor guy. One day, your company will be using ACAD 2008, then you can just export it to ACAD, edit it and save as DGN. Sorry that didn't make you feel any better, I'm sure.

Do you have 8 yet, or are you still suffering on J?

Would have if I could have...

I think that's how the Installation Notes or the Readme.txt should start out:

"You Poor Unfortunate Soul... Well, let's get this started...

It is strongly suggested that you exit all windows....."

Man, you're even making me cry over there, Dub!

Well, since I can't send you my nifty system variable that trains MS to accept ACAD commands in the keyin function, I will give you something it took me awhile to come to terms with. MicroStation will NEVER function like ACAD. It is getting closer, and I hear the XM version is getting even warmer than previous releases (AZ....input???), but the fact remains that MS is icon-driven and not command line-driven. My headaches started to disperse somewhat when I stopped fighting MS and tried to make the most of what it is - a giant pain-in-the-butt dinosaur that is a necessary evil for my job.

I know this isn't what you want to hear, and I DO feel your pain, but try to remember it's Friday and this is only a job.

Thanks, Kindy...

I know... This was really just a little mini-vent... or Micro-vent, I suppose.  :)

There's always plenty of opportunity for the Micro-Vent, isn't there?

And thanks for making me smile on this weird Friday - nobody has called me Kindy since I was young :-)

You know what I mean - we've got that big, daunting birthday ahead of us.

I'm starting to freak out a bit. Gage has started asking me when I'm going to start ordering off the senior citizen's menu (ahhhh, the irresistible charm of ten-year-old boys!)

Your answer should be something like "When I get out of jail for beating my son for asking his mother a question like that!"  :)
