Try this:

1. We're using xref's and you need to freeze x amount of layers in x amount of viewports.
2 . We could go to the layer dialog and freeze each layer.
1. I can create a function that will allow you to select the object and it'll freeze it for you.

1. Why would you want to do that. I can make this job easier on you. You wouldn't need to even know what the name of the layer is. You just select the object you want to NOT see and it's frozen.
