There may still be an interesting future for this business after all . . . I hope it doesn't take all 10 of the years left before I can retire.
Thank you for your time and informative answers Brian.  I have enjoyed the discussion.  Who says the guy who draws everything 1/12 the size it should be can't get along with someone who uses all those whacked out scales?  Are you still connected to the user group in St. Louis?  I still haven't been able to make the commute time after work to their meetings.

The User Group is still around but I handed control of it over to another person about a year ago.  I still attend the meetings as I love to network with people and have discussions about the industry, but I'm distancing myself from anything related to day-to-day organizing of it. I'm also "chatting" less over on AUGI and focusing more of my efforts in a variety of forums with people that have problems or participating more in discussions related to industry direction.  On a related CAD/BIM note, I'm currently the technical editor for Ed Goldberg's first Revit book which should be out in the early fall.  So still keeping busy in the industry, but I'm diversifying out more.  I still have about 30 years before retirement (I turn 35 this year) and I'm doing my best to network and move into that "next stage" of my career/life.

Went to a Civil 3D dog & pony yesterday which was very interesteing and inspirational as always.  The instructor very briefly touched on Autodesk Impressions and RDV Systems Viewer.  Any luck with these?

Until you mentioned it, I had never seen RDV. I just went and looked at it on the company website, its a very interesting program! I'll likely look at it a bit more when I get home from work tonight.

Autodesk Impression... you either love it or you don't... and I don't.   That's nothing against its potential, but I'm just not made to feel "WOW" when I look at it. In the end it's OK for what it is, but I look forward to a future where the program is a bit more powerful. It's pictures are just OK with me and your control over the tools is just OK (at least that's how I felt when I did the demo for it).
