Electrical sysmbols, telephone and data outlets
« on: June 21, 2007, 07:36:41 PM »
It's been a long time since I have worked for an electrical engineer, and I can't seem to remember clearly.  I'm remembering that the telephone is an empty triangle, and data is a filled triangle, and then a combo outlet is a half filled triangle.  :ugly:

If this is wrong please describe the correct way, or post an image.  Thanks.

In my company that's exactly what we use.
Revit BDS 2017, 2016, 2015, 2014, AutoCAD 2017, 2016, Navisworks 2017, 2016, BIM360 Glue

Ditto for me as well

Sometimes the question is more important than the answer. (Thanks Kerry for reminding me)

I know this is an old thread, but...

I'm working on a job right now to show all of the phone jacks, ethernet ports, PA speakers, etc. for the entire site.  We have the same symbol (solid and hollow triangle) but I'm wondering what everyone else does as far as labelling these.
So, for each triangle, I have to be able to show the ethernet port number and the telephone extension number.

I'm just curious to see what others are using.  Anyone want to share an example?  Even a screenshot will do.

I see that you have an offer for blocks already. So I'll just throw this out there.

When I was mapping the networks I was responsible for, I used attributed blocks for the Telco/Cat 5 plugs
there was also information that I included as to what router/port number each office or connection was connected where...

That's what I started out with... the majority of our blocks are attributed.  They're handy, but I have to get a little 'creative' with this job due to space constraints.  IT don't really know what they want to show, either.  This job isn't the greatest one I've ever worked on.  A few people who have an idea of what to do, but no one really "KNOWS".

If you were offering up an example, I'd love to see it.  Thanks for the suggestion, anyway.

I would really have to dig around to find a 'recent' example...
however a description should work...

Create a Block of the Router, add attributes to Each port, one for port number, another for the wall outlet in the office
I did a floor plan in CAD...each office had blocks with attributes for the PC Name, and ALL other information about the PC.
Each printer or plotter also attributed with Plotter Make/Model IP Address if hard coded (none IF using DHCP to assign IP's to devices).  Also equipment closets were shown to assist in planing cable runs to stay within limits of CAT5 and or wireless routers.  Basically a searchable schematic usable to troubleshoot or even inventory the network components.

Keep in mind all of this falls apart pretty quick if the patch cables don't get ID TAGS attached to BOTH ends of them.

Yeah, that's basically what we're doing.

I wanted to do a little more than what the job warrants, but that's typical.

We'll see how this pans out.  :)

These blocks look simple enough to combine into one dynamic block. 8-)
