Proxy entity to solid
« on: March 21, 2007, 10:15:40 AM »
Does anyone know of a way I can change the proxy entity on the attached drawing to a solid?

I want to render a plant room, but the CAD program I use only produces poor quality images, i want a presentation quality image and for that I need to convert the objects to solids, so i can attach textures and render a good quality image.

Anyone have any ideas

erm... I may not have the right object enablers installed, but it only shows a box.  Something tells me it may be an AEC object or something from Arch or Mech Desktop or worse... but I dunno... if it -is- a box... why not just make a solid box?

I have thousands of them in the drawing, to re-draw each one would take forever, and as it's only for a presentation, i can't justify the time.

ah yikes!!  yea that's horrendous... are they all simple boxes?  because someone could probably write a routine to create a box entity identical to the bounding box of that proxy element.

yup they are all simple boxes. created with a 3rd party application using AutoCAD 2006.

Guess i'll just leave it till i have more time to spend

I really think it would be an easy task to write a lsp routine that would get all objects, get their bounding box, and create a box using those points... if I'm not mistaken that is.

So you may want to try posting this to the LISPers area and maybe one of the charitable fellows over there could help you.  I understand enough to know how the lsp basics work but it would take me too long to write the routine, and I'd probably have problems that I'd ask a swamper to help me trouble shoot anyways  lol... not my forte yet... yet...  some day though.

I found a workaround, it's not ideal, but it works.

in 2006, export the drawing as a 3D studio file.

Import the 3DS file into 2007, using 3dsin, then i can attach materials and render from there.

hooray. :-)
