MODELING A 3D GARAGE?
« on: February 09, 2007, 02:22:02 PM »
I have never done model a garage in 3D  This is for my dad he wants me to draw his garage in 3D plus an addition to his garage.  What do you model when you are drawing say garages in 3D?  Is it just the outside surfaces?  Or do you add all studs and rafters and garage doors and such?  Thanks for any feedback

You could draw all of the studs, rafters, etc... and THEN do a materials takeoff, but if all you want is a pretty picture I would just draw walls, doors, windows and a roof using ADT.

What software are you running??

My program adds all the wall framing automagically.

I would say if you are just doing it for a pretty picture though you could just do the surfaces.

I will be using I-Deas at work

I think just the out side surface will work great

wow That would be cool to add all the framing automatically.  Does it add like all the cripples and headers and corner stuff?

Thanks for the feedback

You cad model it steps and film it to show it going up.   Like Hole dug, then slabs, then Wall studs then trusses, then ...,  then ...; you get the idea.  The play movie to your DAD.
I + XI = X is true ...  ... if you change your perspective.

I no longer CAD or Model, I just hang out here picking up the empties beer cans

The first pic is what I am looking for

They are the same model.  I just disabled the view for the siding, sheathing, openings etc.

No.  I use a program called Softplan.  Pretty much made just for residential and light commercial.
